Weight loss week one..

It’s the end of the first week of being healthy. It’s gone really well actually. The things that have gone well are:

– drinking less tea. I’ve swapped tea (with sugar) to herbal or fruit tea, or water with lemon apart from one evening cup of normal tea. I’ve cut down from 3/4 cups of tea to 1 this week. I had a huge headache on Wed and I think it is because of this. I’ve felt good the rest of the week though.

– I’ve meal planned for the whole week for all meals – that’s been especially helpful at breakfast time as if breakfast goes wrong I find the whole day follows.

– I’ve been running. Four times this week. And I joined a beginners running group doing a couch to 5k programme. I really enjoyed the first week, and after it me, Zara, Hannah and Sarah have planned to meet up for extra runs in the week. We did one this morning (at 8.30am!) and although I am now shattered it was worth it.

– I’ve found it easier than I would have thought to turn down chocolate πŸ™‚

– I’m feeling more confident already, and I took some photos of myself and although not huge, there is already a bit of a difference.

Things I need to focus on:

– this week I just want to stick to the same as last week. My meal planning slipped a bit at the end of the week – not too bad but I swapped a couple of things around. I want to stick to the plan this week.

– I am going to think about swapping my evening tea to something else with less sugar starting next week. This is a huge thing for me actually but I feel I will be glad if I do it.

– not slipping into bad habits!

Favourite meal:

I have been enjoying my salads this week, although I’m trying to vary them so I don’t get bored. I have enjoyed everything except for an apple pie porridge that I tried – I need to ‘tweak’ it a bit more to my taste. I still struggle with healthy breakfast as I just done enjoy them, but I’m trying to make things I want to eat.

My meal plan for this week is:

Monday:

B – banana porridge.

L – chicken salad (already prepared).

T – fish chargrilled with steamed sweet potato and veggies.

RUN

Tuesday:

B – fruit, yogurt and muslei

L – butternut soup (half a tub, bought from morissons).

Meal Planning Monday..

Last week I did it πŸ™‚ I mostly stuck to the plan for the week. The only change is that on Thursday we didn’t have beef stew -I can’t even remember what we had instead now though! The rest of the week went to plan though.

This week this is the plan:

Monday

Chilli con carne from the freezer for me and Craig after work.

Tuesday

What Craig makes.

Wednesday

Slow cooked beef stew and dumplings.

Thursday

Chicken pie (the filling was made and frozen) new potatoes and vegetables

Friday

Jacket potatoes, cheese and beans.

Saturday

Party teaΒ  – my Daughter’s 5th birthday tea party.

Sunday

Leftover party food / picky day.

I do like to plan – it means I don’t have days where I don’t have a clue what to make! If you would like to join in, link up at http://www.athomewithmrsm.com/2014/11/meal-planning-monday-3rd-november-2014.html

Enjoy your week πŸ™‚

Meal planning Monday..

I am officially rubbish at meal planning. Each Monday comes around too quickly for a start – it ought to slow down a bit! Most weeks I forget, and the weeks I don’t I usually don’t feel like the planned meal and cheat.

This week, I have created a simple meal plan, made up of our regular and favourite meals, In the hope that keeping it simple helps me stick to it πŸ™‚

Monday

Frozen pie, frozen steamed veg and new potatoes.

Tuesday

Whatever Craig makes (he’s a good cook, but I never tell him that!)

Wednesday

Chilli con carne with pasta.

Thursday

Beef stew.

Friday

Film night tea – chicken nuggets, chips and beans.

Saturday

Fireworks at my sisters with yummy food πŸ™‚

Sunday

Gammon ham and vegetables.

I am going to link up with

– join In, I dare you πŸ™‚ I love to see what others are making, and getting inspired from other peoples yummy cooking.

Meal planning Monday..

Gosh, it’s been a long time since I wrote a blog post. I started a few and then stopped. I’m going to leave it by saying that I’ve been having such a stressful time at work that I’ve struggled to think about anything else. There’s a lot going on, and I’m struggling to manage my time, so when I get home I just want to think about nothing, and snuggle on the sofa with uncomplicated tv, reading blogs or a book on my iPad or browsing the internet. It’s about all I have the energy to manage right now.

I have a meal plan for this week though, so it seemed to make sense to take part in meal planning Monday, with at home with mrs m.

Here’s the plan:

Monday (today) chicken stir fry with sweet chilli and garlic sauce.

Tuesday: whatever Craig makes for when I get home from work.

Wednesday: beef stew and dumplings ( I made it in the slow cooker yesterday and popped it in the freezer). I think it’s good, even if I do say so myself. I like stew when it gets to Autumn.

Thursday: lamb shepherds pie with a sweet potato topping, kale, carrots and sweetcorn.

Friday: chicken curry.

Saturday: burgers in buns with salad or chilli con carne from the freezer (leftovers) with rice and garlic bread. Not sure which yet.

Sunday: Sunday dinner.

I like having a plan πŸ™‚ however, due to non planning my shopping bill has been creeping up recently (I spent about Β£65 this week,at morissons) and so I’m going to have to knock it back down again. I don’t even know what I bought exactly that made it so expensive compared to normal – i thin I just ended up with too much in my trolley by the end. Usually I shop at aldi, but occasionally I need washing powder (or crave their fresh bread!) and end up back at morissons.

I have a couple of book reviews that I want to post, so will get them posted in the next couple of nights.

Meal planning Monday

This week I have decided to try some different meals, something to get a little excited about. I am also quite poor though, so I’ve tried to think of slightly different but affordable meals, that we will all enjoy and don’t take too long to make.

So with that in mind, here’s my plan for the week.

Monday – some kind of stir fry concoction. I would like to do a spicy beef, veg and noodle stir fry. It has to be quick and simple as we work Mondays. But we haven’t had stir fry for months as the kids don’t like it, so it will still make a nice change.

Tuesday – Craig cooks so he’s in charge.

Wednesday – pasta. I want to try this corgette and bacon pasta recipe : http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/2303681/creamy-courgette-and-bacon-pasta . I never experiment with pasta – i stick to tuna pasta or tomato pasta. This looks like a lovely change, so going to give it a go.

Thursday – gammon, egg and new potato salad.

Friday – film night – leftover ham, eggs, rice and beans.

Saturday – we are at a wedding reception and girls are sleeping out, so just a sandwich to keep us going I think.

Sunday – Mexican night with family. We are each going to bring something – my contribution will be slow cooked (hopefully pulled) spicy pork, shredded beef, and maybe a salsa. Nom.

I have joined in with the linky run by At home with Mrs M – click on the badge below for more information πŸ™‚ I enjoy this as it reminds me to plan my meals, helps me budget and it reminds when when I forget what I have planned for each day!

And I will just finish my post with a couple of the meals we had last week – I was a bit rubbish and kept forgetting to take photos, so only got a couple, but I’ll try to get better at this!

Meal planning Monday

Meal Planning Monday

I haven’t done a meal planning post for months, and i’ve decided that i should – it helps me with budgeting, knowing what i’m making, and means that i can prepare what i need in advance. I’m joining in with Mrs M – click on the badge at the top to find out more / join it. Go on, you know you want to πŸ™‚

So here goes:

MondayΒ – leftover ham, egg and new potato salad (i’ve already eaten this, was yummy! Had it three times in two days).

Tuesday – Craig cooks while i’m at work, so whatever he decides to make.

Wednesday – Lamb shepherds pie with frozen sweetcorn and carrots. Leftovers can be frozen for a meal next week.

Thursday – Chicken drumsticks, cous cous and salad.

Friday – Film night tea – usually puff pastry pizza

Β 20131029-085402.jpg

Saturday – Sausage and vegetables with yorkshire puddings.

Sunday –Β Savory mince pie, new potatoes and carrots. Β 20131128-112132.jpg

Yum, makes me hungry thinking about it πŸ™‚

I am also going to aim to take pictures of each meal this week – i have a weird addiction to seeing what others are eating, so i figured i’d share the results of our meals.

Meal planning Monday

I’m really late in writing this meal plan, sorry. This is the plan for the week:

Today we had spaghetti and meatballs.

Tuesday – sausage, mash and veg.

Wednesday – fish, wedges and peas.

Thursday – roast chicken dinner – as were not having one on Sunday, and Craig is off work this week I will make a mid week roast πŸ™‚

Friday – out at eureka for the day so I think jacket potatoes cheese and beans when we get home – quick and easy.

Saturday- spaghetti bolonaise.

Sunday – Amelia’s birthday (having a birthday buffet in the afternoon for family)

My little girl is 4 on Sunday (which I find really weird – I’m not entirely sure how she got to being 4 so quickly!) we debated a party but just couldn’t afford one in the end, and decided that instead we will treat her by taking her to eureka (a children’s museum, which Amelia keeps telling everyone is a children’s church) for the day and having parents, grand parents, sisters and us for a buffet on her actual birthday – quite informal and she gets to see those that care most about her and get completely spoilt!

#mealplanningmonday

20131014-085619.jpg

I’ve decided to join in meal planning Monday for the first time, after seeing it on another blog (mummy’s knee). I do this myself anyway in a scruffy notebook, so I thought it would be fun to join into this!

Monday: sweet and sour vegetables with stir fry noodles and garlic bread.

Tuesday: home-made fish fingers, home made potato wedges and mushy peas.

Wednesday: chilli con carne (leftover from last week, in the freezer) with brown rice.

Thursday: jacket potatoes with tuna (and whatever salad I have – not much)

Friday: we have family film night so I let Amelia choose! Usually either hot dogs or home made puff pastry pizza with home made pizza sauce and veggies to make it a bit healthier πŸ™‚

Saturday: spaghetti and meatballs (with yesterday’s sauce if Amelia does choose pizza)

Sunday: home made chicken pie with vegetables and gravy.

So that’s the plan for the week. I have been trying to get some fish in at least once, and have at least two nights meat free (some weeks it’s more, but my boyfriend does moan about it!) it keeps the costs down though, and just isn’t necessary every single day.
